2.  STORAGE OF PAPER

Paper has a tendency to absorb moisture from its environment.Leaving paper in the tray for long periods of time may also cause it to curl. If it is left in the tray it is advised that the stack is flipped over and turned 180 degrees before printing.Paper should also be fanned before being put into the tray to separate the sheets of paper. They often get'stuck' together which can cause problems within the printer.Under normal conditions,we should keep humidity between 40%-60% . Never too high or too low.

3. FUSER

Curling can be caused by heat. If the fuser was too hot while the paper passed through, then the paper would curl.If your printer is old, it is advisable that it is serviced. Temperature controls within the fuser rollers degrade over time, so the fuser may be too hot, resulting in the paper curling too much. Cooler temperatures reduce the moisture loss and therefore reduce the curl.

4. INK LOAD

If the ink system allows or requires to load much inks, the paper would have to absorb too much inks, which makes the paper extremely wet, causing the paper curled easily.

(1).If the textile requires little ink , such as summer clothes , you should choose 58g,80g,90g and 100g dye sublimation paper . As long as you control the humidity in 40%-60% RH, the paper will work very smoothly .
(2). If the textile requires a lot of ink , for example , print a large area of dark color , you’d better choose 120gsm sublimation transfer paper . But currently , if you only have 80g and 100g at hand , please make sure do not let the paper become damp . Then you need control the humidity around 50%RH. With those efforts , you could also use 80g and 100g to print a large area of dark color .

According to the humidity of the working environment

(1). Low humidity . In the humidity under 45%RH , It’s better to choose 75gsm sublimation paper. Because when in a low humidity , the paper will shrink, and the print side is hunch-up. During the printing , the paper absorb ink , the “hunch-up” will be more obviously. 100g and 120g paper are harder than 80g , so the “hunch-up” will damage the print head . 80gsm is more softer , it could relief the “hunch-up” and protect your print-head from damage .
(2) . High humidity . In the humidity above 70% RH . It’s better to choose 120gsm . Because the paper is very easy to become damp in a high humidity , it will become softer and stiffness is weak at the same time . If you use low weight paper, it will be very hard to print smoothly because of the stiffness and hardness go down . At this time , 120gsm is your best choice.

High-weight sublimation paper

If your fabric is elastic, sticky sublimation paper is your best choice. At present, 100gsm sticky paper is the most popular in the market, and it can avoid double printing image on the fabric.

In the case of printing on open substrates, four criteria should be considered for the correct paper choice: Ink load, pattern difficulty, web tension control and printing speed.

Criterion 1 ­ Ink loading

This is the general and dominant rule. The higher the ink loading, the heavier the paper has to be in order to accept the moisture from the ink without any problems. The relationship between ink loading and paper weight results directly from the water absorption by the paper.

Criterion 2 ­ Difficult patterns

Difficult patterns demand heavier paper.
What is a “difficult” pattern in this context? One that has:
(1)an asymmetrical design
(2)blotches or bands with little or no ink alternated with blotches or bands with a high ink loadingRoll-to-roll transfer in a transfer calendar
Difficult patterns pose a challenge for the paper’s dimensional stability because they create big, local differences in the amount of ink that will be absorbed. At the borderline between low and high ink loading, the transfer paper has a tendency to cockle.

Roll-to-roll operation of the printer allows for a certain amount of tension control.
